Chinese Dragon Dance and Chinese Lion Dance

These two dances are performed during Chinese New Year and on other special occasions in Yokohama’s bustling Chinatown. Originally an ancient Chinese performing art, this vibrant celebration for the New Year was introduced to Yokohama by Chinese residents in the early 20th century. Watch brightly colored dragons and lions dance to the lively accompaniment of gongs and drums in a phenomenal display of energy and color.

Vocal Group: The Yokohama Sisters

This talented quintet offers a large repertoire of Japanese and Western music that appeals to all delegates from international pop and rock, and classic Japanese songs, to national anthems from around the world. Bilingual (English and Japanese) MCs will be on hand to ensure all international delegates are included in the fun. The group is especially well-received by delegates for including lots of local Yokohama character in their performances. Organized by the International Calligraphy Education Association and Kouka Calligraphy Schools. Discover a novel approach to calligraphy in Yokohama, the city where traditional culture and modern technology coexist in a perfect balance of beauty and innovation. In this eloquent performance set to music, skilled brush calligraphers gracefully choreograph artistic writing, creating dynamic words suitable for themes in opening ceremonies and other event. In the accompanying calligraphy experience, participating delegates can try their hand at writing Japanese characters on an uchiwa (Japanese fan), a chopstick sleeve made of Japanese paper, or a wooden tablet, all of which can be taken home as mementoes.

Cha-no-Yu (tea ceremony) is performed in a mobile tearoom built by the master shrine carpenters of Hanamasu-mokko, whowhich specializes in shrine and temple architecture. Many conference delegates from abroad never get the opportunity to explore Japan in- depth before leaving Japan. But with the Mumei-an Mobile Tearoom, authentic traditional Japanese culture can now be brought directly to their conference venue! Delight in Japan's best matcha (green tea) and Yokohama's famous sweets in an exquisite tearoom, made of planed wood from the Yokohama Suigen-no-Mori, a water-source forest. Yokohama is a city bursting with talent in many Japanese crafts and cultural traditions, including miyadaiku shrine carpentry (inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list), which can be experienced in a workshop held only in Yokohama.

When this talented bartender donated all his prize money from the Ombak Sunset Flairtending Championship 2016 in Bali to the Kumamoto Earthquake relief effort, he was invited to the Prime Minister's Office of Japan in recognition for his humanitarian contributions. Jun Nakamura has performed at over 1,000 weddings and various events, showcasing his unique brand of “cocktail performance” all around the world.
