PACIFICO Yokohama celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 29th.

They are deeply grateful for the patronage and support they have received from their many customers and related parties since they opened their doors in 1991. Since their debut at the forefront of Yokohama's Minato Mirai 21 district, together with the development of the city, they have welcomed approximately 27,000 events and 87 million visitors.

【Update 06/11/2021】press release: Yokohama Unveils New Promotional Videos for Hybrid Conferences

The Yokohama Visitors and Convention Bureau (YCVB) has created an attractive new set of promotional videos for conference organizers and participants. The goal of these videos is to illustrate why that has become the case. They present the appeal of the city as a meeting destination, and thus, further YCVB’s goal of increasing the number of conferences held as well as the number of conference participants.

Due to the pandemic, conference organizers cannot currently visit in person. In the making of these videos, this was taken into account, as well as the number of conferences presently being held in a hybrid format. One of the videos takes viewers on a unique, interactive 360° tour, providing a realistic experience of exploring this beautiful city. The videos highlight the charms of the harbor combined with abundant greenspace which gives Yokohama an invigorating atmosphere.

【Update 05/10/2021】“YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN” urban-type circular ropeway, started operation on 22 April.

Japan’s first and world’s newest urban-type circular ropeway “YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN” creates a new kind of attraction at Yokohama Minato Mirai.
It connects the front of JR Sakuragichō Station and Unga Park in the Shinko District with a cityscape view above the city.

PACIFICO Yokohama is the first MICE facility in Japan to have received “GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation” (here in after “GBAC STAR™ certification”). This certifies that their facility meets international hygiene standards for infection prevention measures so that clients can use their facility safely and with peace of mind.

GBAC STAR™ certification is an international accreditation program developed by the “Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC),” a division of the worldwide cleaning industry organization “International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA),” to advocate operating standards for facilities that implement protocols in cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention. Through the support of “Investigations Related to Certification System for MICE Facilities” by the Japan Tourism Agency, they have been selected from a number of MICE facilities working to promote safe and secure facility usage, leading to this successful certification.

ICCA Asia Pacific Chapter Summit 2020 will be held in Yokohama.

Yokohama will host the second edition of ICCA Asia Pacific Chapter Summit 2020 (ICCA AP Summit 2020) as the Japan’s first host for its meeting, following the host city as Penang in 2019. This event adopts the hybrid format, consisting of virtual and physical broadcasted from PACIFICO Yokohama NORTH which opened in April 2020. “BAYSIDE BLUE” the articulated bus, started operation on 23rd July 2020.

As a new transportation in the Yokohama Bay Area, the articulated bus “BAYSIDE BLUE” started its operation on 23rd July 2020. This new route made it possible to connect the major tourist attractions and facilities along the waterfront from the Yokohama Station to Yamashita Pier, for example, Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, Cupnoodles Museum, Yamashita Park and Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal, etc. This is the first articulated bus which was locally developed in Japan by the collaboration research of Hino Motors, Ltd. and ISUZU MOTORS LIMITED.
Total length of this vehicle is 18 meters, maximum capacity is 113 people, and is made progressively barrier-free. The fare for an adult is \ 220, and \ 110 for a child (various daily tickets are also available).
Bayside Blue will contribute to create more prosperity in the waterfront area with the eco-friendly hybrid system.

Yokohama readies for restart as state of emergency is lifted

The “Declaration of a State of Emergency in response to the Novel Coronavirus Disease” was lifted for all over Japan on 25th May, 2020 . (The below is quoted from the message of Mayer Hayashi)

In response to the state of emergency being lifted, the City of Yokohama’s basic policy direction will be to “prevent the spread of infection and drive socio-economic activity to create a new normal for residents.” The city will work under the two pillars of “resuming city projects and services as soon as infection control measures are in place,” and “providing active support for the recovery of economic activity based on national and prefectural policies.”

In response to the above statement, both public and private facilities in Yokohama are in the progress to restart their operations step by step.

・“Marine Rouge” (sightseeing ship):Restarted operation on 25th May, 2020.
・Sankeien Garden:Reopening from 1st June, 2020.
・Restaurants in Yokohama:Allowed to be open until 10 p.m.

“PACIFICO Yokohama North” opened on 24th April 2020. PACIFICO Yokohama North is a multi-functional convention center featuring one of Japan’s largest multi-purpose halls as a new addition to PACIFICO Yokohama. PACIFICO Yokohama North is directly connected to the existing facilities (National Convention Hall of Yokohama, Conference Center, Exhibition Hall, Hotel) with the pedestrian deck. Catering can be arranged with InterContinental Yokohama Grand – conveniently housed within the complex – and the nearby, Yokohama Royal Park Hotel.

PACIFICO Yokohama North will open adjacent to PACIFICO Yokohama on 24th April, 2020.

The new facility will be built adjacent to the PACIFICO Yokohama Exhibition Hall, and plans include 42 large, medium, and small conference rooms in addition to the largest multipurpose hall (6,300㎡)in the country.

This multipurpose hall, which can be divided into as many as 8 sections depending on the required size and application, is an ideal space for hosting major corporate conventions.

It is also suitable for ceremonies, incentive travel events (training and incentive travel), trade fairs and exhibitions, new product launches, and large scale parties. The added facility, in combination with the current facilities, will allow the concurrent hosting of two large scale international meetings or academic conferences of up to 3,000 people.
