Disaster Prevention Tour
Discover Japan's world-renowned disaster-preparation measures in Yokohama!
In this engaging tour of the Yokohama Citizens Disaster Prevention Center, visitors can experience earthquake tremors, fire-suppression methods, and disaster response. One of Yokohama City’s recommended disaster-preparation measures is to use temples as evacuation shelters, and in line with that, participants will finish the program with a peaceful zazen meditation at Yoko-in, a 300-year-old temple in the heart of Yokohama.
Yokohama City is committed to creating a travel environment that is resilient against disasters so that international visitors can enjoy their stay with peace of mind. Building on lessons from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the Japan Tourism Agency has enhanced disaster preparedness for international tourists. Japan’s historical disaster strategies are tightly woven into its culture and architecture, and visitors have a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of Japanese heritage.
