The Yokohama Greenery Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, was established in October 1984 with the goal of promoting urban greening, ensuring the smooth operation of parks, green spaces, and zoos, and enhancing public welfare. In 2024, the foundation celebrated its 40th anniversary. The foundation utilizes funds from the Yokohama Green City Development Fund, supported by donations from citizens, businesses, and various organizations, to advance initiatives such as public awareness programs, green promotion projects, and urban greenery development. As the designated administrator of three zoos in Yokohama, Yokohama Yamate Western-style Houses, Mitsuzawa Park, and other public parks and facilities, the foundation is committed to maintaining and managing these spaces, organizing community-driven events, and promoting environmental education, ensuring their active use in line with citizen needs.

Sustainability Initiatives

Our foundation has been awarded the highest-level “Supreme” certification under the Yokohama City SDGs Certification System (Y-SDGs). The initiatives we oversee—including urban greening, park management, and zoo operations—play a vital role in enhancing both the local urban environment and residents’ quality of life. Additionally, these efforts address global challenges such as nature conservation and biodiversity preservation. Through these activities, we actively contribute to achieving SDGs Goal 14 :Life Below Water and Goal 15: Life on Land, among other SDGs. Furthermore, our initiatives align with “Nature Positive” approaches and “Nature-based Solutions,” supporting a more sustainable and resilient environment.
