Host Your Post-Conference Reception in Yokohama’s Iconic Chinatown
Published:11/29/2024
The origins of Yokohama Chinatown date back to the opening of the Port of Yokohama, when Chinese merchants who arrived alongside Westerners began establishing businesses. As the number of Chinese immigrants grew, Yokohama Chinatown gradually took shape into what it is known as today.
Yokohama Chinatown is home to a diverse array of restaurants offering cuisine from across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong specialties. Many of these restaurants are popular venues for receptions held during conventions in Yokohama, with Kaseiro being one of the most notable establishments.
Dining Fit for an Emperor: Kaseiro Yokohama
Modern Yokohama Chinatown is synonymous with good food, which you can enjoy all year round—everything from street fare that is perfect on the go to full-course restaurant meals for any occasion. Even in the tightly packed Chinatown where space is at a premium, there are still places accommodating large parties. Over the years, Chinatown has actually become Yokohama’s premier spot for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences/conventions, and exhibitions) thanks to an influx of hotels in the area and restaurants like Kaseiro.
Well known for their Beijing court cuisine, Kaseiro serves Peking duck, shark-fin soup, dim sum, desserts, and more than 300 other traditional Chinese dishes in luxurious surroundings that can accommodate hundreds. Their honten (main building) has the largest banquet hall in all of Chinatown that can accommodate up to 200 people.. Ten private rooms are available for all kinds of events, and Kaseiro also operates a second location in Chinatown, the newer shinkan, offering another unbeatable venue.
Kaseiro has the atmosphere of a private villa decorated in unmistakably Chinese fashion, but with an elegantly minimalist and timeless twist—ornate touches here and there, like a decorative post or the display of an imperial robe. Thanks to these and the partitions used to control the size of the rooms, Kaseiro can be transformed into the perfect venue for all kinds of customers. Kaseiro is also the only restaurant in Chinatown with its own garden of ume (Japanese plum) and maple tree, where you might even hear Japanese nightingales sing. The bakery attached to the shinkan sells a wide selection of Chinese sweets, meat buns, dumplings, and other delicacies.
